Another Down Day & Amazing Bookstore (BA Day 11)

Doug has been wonderful. He wants this to be a vacation and time off of some of my 'job', too, so he's done nearly all the cooking and cleaning of dishes!

And, the kids have really enjoyed special Daddy time. He's reading to the girls here. He has read all of 'Anne of Green Gables' with Sutton.

Doug & I were able to spend more time going through our Bible Study this morning and both got runs in.

We then walked to this amazing bookstore/cafe (El Ateneo) that is in an old, beautiful theater. The plan was to stay a while and read and study, but the kids decided to change that plan and our time there was shorter than we had hoped.

We're glad we got to see it, though. And, we got to look through some neat books about the history of Buenos Aires and some books on our future destinations.

In 1919 a young man named Max Glucksman decided to construct a theatre house that would be both grand and splendid. Newly immigrated to Buenos Aires, Glucksman was a visionary who saw his dream realized and opened his new theater, appropriately named The Grand Splendid. For years the theatre presented Argentines with performances of all kinds and local greats such as Gardel and Corsini graced the stage. In 1924 Glucksman began broadcasting Radio Splendid from the fourth floor of the building, and his recording company Odeon recorded some of the earlyTango greats. In the late twenties the theatre was converted into a movie house and in 1929 showed the first movies ever presented with sound.

We tried a place for dinner that Doug saw on his run. It was described as 'healthy fusion'. It looked nice inside, and the menu sounded good, but we weren't that impressed with the food, unfortunately.
