We finally experienced the famous (around here anyway) Tremont Turkey Festival. I'd heard it talked about much in the last 11 years, but have never experienced it. There isn't a whole lot to 'do' around here (at least we seemed to have exhausted all the options within an hour drive in the year we've been here), so it's always fun for us to have something new to do or go.
The Tremont Turkey Festival was initiated in 1966 to raise funds to build a swimming pool in the Tremont Park. Why turkey? I'm not sure, but am guessing it's that there are a few Turkey farms around here? Or because the high school is the Tremont Turks? Not sure exactly.
Thursday night was 2 ride for the price of 1 night, so we took advantage of that to ride rides that night. The kids and I went after dinner and Doug met us there after a work dinner he had.
The kids and I first walked through the whole thing to survey it all and take inventory on which rides we wanted to ride. This was the first ride the kids rode. They loved it. Do you see them in the fourth row? I was a little nervous after our experience at the Pumpkin Festival last year. We all liked the Turkey Festival much more than the Pumpkin Festival. And, the kids were not scared of rides after this first one.
Daddy arrived after the dragon ride and he and the kids went on the bumper cars. The pictures are blurry, because it was getting dark and they were moving, but they still make me laugh every time I look at them. They were having so much fun.
Hudson turned out to be quite the daredevil, which is a complete 180 from the Pumpkin Festival last year. He wanted to go on all the big rides. Daddy was the only taker to go with him :). (Well, actually Kerrigan wanted to go with him, but she was too small). Here they're getting ready to go on Gravitron, which is the centrifugal force ride that spins you into the wall and lifts you off the ground. I'd be sick for days if I went on that. Doug came off a bit queazy, but Hudson was exclaiming, "That was awesome!"

This ride is called Nemesis. The kids and I saw this ride in our initial walk-thru and were in awe. We all had our mouths wide open, holding our stomachs. At the time, none of us wanted to go on it, but later Hudson did. It was crazy. The people at the top on the end swing back and forth until the are all the way upside down and the end itself also spins and goes upside down throughout the ride. I'd have been all over it when I was in high school, but not today :)

This cracked me up. These are the little kiddie cars that just go in a circle, but the kids had their hands up. Poor Kerrigan wanted to go on so many of the bigger scary rides with Hudson, but she didn't meet the height requirements. Guess she's a little daredevil, too. Sutton was sweet to ride with Kerrigan on her little rides.
Doug, again, having to go with Hudson on a ride - Pharaoh's Fury :). Can you see them way up there. Hudson chose that seat, because he wanted to go the highest. Doug came off looking a little queazy again, but Hudson again came off bright-eyed and loving it.

We went back on Saturday for turkey, bed races and tractor pull

I've never heard of or seen bed races, but this is it. The high school cross-country team won.
Each team designs their own bed on wheels and they run half the course, run around the bed once and run the second half of the course.

Hudson's turn. It was a lot harder than he or we expected. He didn't do as well as he'd hoped and was quite sad.
Sutton was in a different age group. She did well, but not as well as she'd hoped, either. She was also bummed. Need to work more on good sportsmanship, I guess. Couldn't believe how some kids pulled this thing so far. The weight or bar that presses to the ground makes it harder to pull each pedal.
They didn't have an age group as young as Kerrigan, but she enjoyed sitting on this tractor while we waited for Sutton and Hudson.
