It was amazing to go out after the storm passed. It was such the opposite of hours before with the roaring wind! So peaceful now.
We took a 'snow day' from school. We figured, we should take the benefit of a snow day, if we're going to be here. We've never had schools closed for weather before in CA! But, While we're here, we'll take advantage of the few benefits of these winters that we can! Since the public schools were closed, we figured we'd close for the day, too. The next day was a snow day for public schools, too, but we were open :).
About 4 to 5 feet of snow piled up in the backyard. The flatlands only had about 2 inches of snow on them, but the very high winds blew all the snow into drifts.
Lots of snow. There has not been this much snow here since '79!
I love the large bunches of pillowy snow on branches and things
The wind (one of God's paintbrushes) made some pretty and interesting art in the snow
This shows the small amount of snow at the bottom (front) and all the snow piled up in the middle.
Sutton playing dramatic as her leg is 'lost' in the snow.
The sun was shining, which we were all thankful for and happy to be out in, but it was extremely cold. Kerrigan didn't last long.
She headed in pretty soon after we got out. She & I went in for a bit to warm her up (and me) and put her down for a nap.
Kerrigan & I warming our feet on the space heater
When I came back out, I was met by an ambush :) Sutton & Hudson had been making snowballs and piling them in the back of the pickup to attack me as I came out.
More pretty artwork in the snow
snow waves
This was pretty cool how the snow blew onto and stuck on the brick
Doug joined us later
more pillowy snow

a broken heart
Snow cave!
Joseph and Judah were here with their dad who was plowing the parking lot for Precision. They joined us in digging in the snow.
The entrance was small, but the cave inside was big
We also made tunnels to and from the cave
Those are Hudson's feet. He's digging more of the tunnel.
the sunset later that night (through the window, because too cold to go out).
It was nice to have a clear sky that we hadn't seen in a very long time!
