As has been our experience thus far, it took much longer to get to Escazu than planned (8 hours, instead of 4). We did a little better navigating the way, though, than the first time around San Jose. Basically, we just try to stay away from the center of the city and stay on the large roads around it. We made it back to the rental car company where Kerrigan's carseat was waiting. The more difficult part was finding our condo in Escazu. We found out later, that the directions from the landlord were not clear and the map was not much help again. We did ask for directions again with better results this time. After a few circle, we found it. It was getting dark, so we found it just in time. Escazu seemed almost like an American suburb. It was nice to be around some familiarity and have a nice grocery store, but strange at the same time to drive by Tony Romas, TGIFridays, Quiznos, Pizza Hut, etc. It just didn't seem right.
We had this in our itinerary because we wanted to see what it would be like to live in a San Jose suburb and was a good base for day trips in the central valley.

Some of our first views of the city that night

there was even a Maserati and Ferrari dealership

I didn't get any real representative shots. I took this one quickly as we were driving
the pretty hills surrounding the valley
our condo complex. It was locked up like Fort Knox, with high walls and gates with a security guard that had his hand ready on his pistol as he opened the gate. All the buildings and complexes were this way.

the view from the pool. it was nice to have a pool and a big place again with a 3rd bedroom, a second bathroom & a bigger kitchen to cook in.
on our down day on Friday (3rd day here), we just hung around the pool. The kids are trying to catch up to where they were last year in swimming. They're getting more comfortable and courageous each day. They both jumped in to get coins off the bottom of the pool.
high five

we took the kids to ice cream after dinner for their promised reward for getting the coins from the bottom of the pool. It wasn't bad, but definitely not as good as Argentine ice cream. It was much like American ice cream.
